Tyrone
Davis

Born: 5-4-1938
Died: 2-9-2005

......from complications of a stroke.
Greenville, Mississippi native Tyrone Davis began recording during the 1960's (for the Four Brothers' label). After coming to the national spotlight with "Can I Change My Mind" (on Dakar), he then scored his biggest hit with the #-3 1970 smash "Turn Back The Hands Of Time." The Chicago based artist stayed with Dakar until 1973, a move to Columbia Records and the onslaught of disco brought him a second wave of success.
During his career at Columbia Records he released several 12" singles:
"Give It Up (Turn It Loose)"-1976, "All You Got"-1977 and "Get On Up (Disco)"-1978. But by 1980 he was reduced to the oldies circuit and found himself without a major label.
Tyrone, who had first found success in Chicago, remained here until his death. Our hats off to the man that a 1980's Billboard poll named the 30th most important man in R&B music.....we'll miss our fellow Chicagoan.
