| Rick Davies formed the pop/rock group in 1969 and they struggled, gaining popularity with each release, until they hit the jackpot a decade later. 1979's "Breakfast In America" sold 18 million copies and spawned three hits. The next eight years were spent trying to regain that moment, they tried full-on rock, R&B, pouty pop and nothing clicked. With 1987's "Free As A Bird" they tapped into the lucrative dance music scene and scored their last hit of mention. "I'm Beggin' You" was as nifty a dance track as one could ask for. The fact that Phil Harding mixed the 12" single for PWL Productions is probably the reason. After that the group slipped back into rock obscurity. Though they have toured and recorded continually, well into the new millenium, their greatest moments seem to have come and gone. |
