| Ron Baker |
| Died in August of 1990 from brain cancer....... "jammin on bass in heaven" |
| Ron Baker (aka Ronnie Baker ) first had a taste of success as an uncredited musician on Cliff Noble's 1968 dance hit "The Horse." As a studio bassist in the Philadelphia area he became an intergral part of core muscians that officially became M.F.S.B. in 1971.
As M.F.S.B. they not only scored their own hits but provided backing for such legendary acts as Loleatta Holloway, First Choice, The Delfonics, The Intruders, The Trammps, Harold Melvin, Archie Bell, Jerry Butler, The Ebonies, B.B. King, The The O'Jays, The Temptations, Barbara Mason and hundreds of others. Ron was also a talented writer and in the late 1970's he, along with Norman Harris and Earl Young, formed "Golden Fleece Productions." The trio released one album (2-12" promo package) on Salsoul as "B-H-Y." As disco and the Philly sound waned in the turn of the decade (1970's-1980's) Baker continued with studio work and spent most of the 1980's writing and performing the Atlantic City circuit. We are saddened to hear of Mr. Baker's passing and are honored to include him in the DiscoMuseum......thanks Ron for those incredible bass licks.......R.I.P. |
