Marilyn Chambers
Born Marilyn Ann Briggs she had her first taste of fame as an Ivory Snow mom. In fact it's been a long standing joke that she would include a box of Ivory Snow in her porn films. For those of you who haven't a clue....Ivory Snow was a detergent popular in the 50's and 60's. By 1972 she was connected with San Francisco's infamous Mitchell Brothers and made her porn debut with "Behind The Green Door." A successful career in the adult movie business boom of the early 1970's gave way to a disco career. Following Andrea True's lead Marilyn cut "Benihana" for Roulette Records in 1976. I remember dancing to it at the local Atlanta clubs, but even then thinking that she was a "one-hit wonder." She has continued her film career throughout the years, even venturing into mainstream legit films like 1970's "The Owl & The Pussycat" and 1977's "Rabid." But mainsteam acceptance has often alluded her and she still remains a cult item.
