Lani Hall
The original voice of Sergio Mendes' Brasil '66, singer Lani Hall was also the wife of trumpeter and A&M Records co-founder Herb Alpert. After leaving Mendes, Lani embarked on a solo career that never really took hold.  Naturally her 1974 debut "Sundown Lady" (and subsequent releases) were on the family imprint A&M Records. In 1979 she joined the legions of bandwagon-jumpers when she recorded and released the album "Double Or Nothing." The 12" single of "Double Or Nothing" raced up many club charts but failed to crack the pop charts.  After an Adult Contemporary hit in 1983 with the theme to the James Bond film "Never Say Never Again" she quietly faded into the occassional guest spot on hubby's albums. The rise of Latin pop during the 1990's inspired Hall to return to the studio, and in 1998 she issued "Brasil Nativo." She earned critical acclaim for the recording, but she had already won over the latin community when she won a Grammy in 1985 for "Es Facil Amar."
