| James Wells |
| Another artist that seems to be forgotten is James Wells. Despite scoring a couple of major disco hits there is virtually no information floating around about him. I do know that James was born here in Chicago in 1956 and was "discovered" by by british producer Ian Levine. In fact Ian pillaged Chicago for several of his earliest acts. Among his Chicago discoveries are L.J. Johnson, Barbara Pennington, Evelyn Thomas and James Wells. Ian produced the first sessions for Wells 1978 release "My Claim To Fame" in London. The tracks were licensed to AVI and produced the mega-hits "My Claim To Fame" and "True Love Is My Destiny." Following on the heels of that smash was Wells second release "Explosion." The album released in 1979 did produce one 12" single "That's The Way The Wind Blows" but failed to match it's predecessors chart numbers. Despite the crash of disco in America, dance music flourished in the U.K.. James continued working for Levine doing session work and at some point James got married. His next appearance on vinyl was the smashing 12" single "R.S.V.P." with his lovely talented wife Susan Wells, another Levine protege. Since then James has remained somewhat of a mystery. If anyone has further information on James please write us and help us honor the man for his wonderful contributions to the disco-era. |
