Nicholas Ashford
and
Valerie
Simpson
Hall Of Fame Inductees July 2004
Nick and Val earn their spot in the "Hall Of Fame" for several reasons. The obvious reason is their many disco hits. Less obvious reasons are: their longevity. They celebrate their 40th year in music this year. Their songwriting skills have had them top the disco charts with not only their own recordings but with artists such as Diana Ross, Chaka Khan and Gladys Knight and countless others. And their prolific body of work beginning in 1964 with the late Ray Charles hit "Let's Go Get Stoned." The husband and wife team have also had solo recording careers, with Val's being the most successful. Val's brother has also had a lucrative career as the lead singer of the Village People.

My favorite Ashford & Simpson tracks:

1.   Tried, Tested And Found True
2.   Don't Cost You Nothing
3.   It Seems To Hang On
4.   Send It
5.   Found A Cure
6.   High Rise
7.   Nobody Walks In L.A.
8.   Solid
9.   Cookies & Cake
10. Street Corner
