| Gregg Diamond Born: 5-4-1949 Died: 3-14-1999 at the age of 49. |
| Gregg Diamond was the genius behind "Bionic Boogie," and his own creations "Starcruiser" and "Hardware." He also turned an aging porn star into disco royalty (Andrea True). Sadly I've exhausted all my known avenues of info and not much is known about Gregg. He died on March 14, 1999 from gastrointestinal bleeding. Among his many credits he was a producer, songwriter, piano player and drummer. He worked with many artists from James Brown and Jobriath to Andrea True and Gloria Gaynor. I felt he deserved a place here in the "DiscoMuseum," especially since he wrote and produced one of my all-time favorites, the 1st "Bionic Boogie" album.
Thanks for the music....wish we had known you better! |
| EDITORS NOTE: A visitor to the website recently wrote me and sent a picture of Gregg (Thanks Cary!) enclosed is the note that accompanied it: |
| This photo( top of the page) was taken in 1978 of Gregg (on the left, in the black hair), his girlfriend at the time Elaine (don't remember her last name) and Jim Gregory, who played bass with Gregg in many of their iterations, including the Andrea True Connection, Bionic Boogie, Starcruiser, Gloria Gaynor, and even (in earlier days) Jobriath. Jim died last summer (not sure of the actual cause). I met Gregg a couple of times because I knew Jim, but I didn't know Gregg well. It's safe to say that he did not do things in moderation, but nevertheless I was shocked to hear of his passing at age 49.
"Hot Butterfly" (from Bionic Boogie) is still one of my all-time favorite tracks. Too bad he never got the recognition he deserved! regards, Cary in San Francisco |
