GLENN HUGHES

Born   7-18-1950
Died   3-4-2001 at the age of  50.
Village People leatherman Glenn Hughes, 50, a member of the disco band from its 1976 inception until 1995 (when he stopped performing with the group), died March 4 after a long illness, according to Rolling Stone.com.
Hughes, who was a bridge toll collector before donning his chains and skins and striking it big with the band (whose campy hits included
"Y.M.C.A" and "Macho Man"), requested that he be buried in full leather regalia.
Among the many hit records he performed on, Glenn also appeared on countless television shows with The Village People. At the height of the "disco era"  actress turned director Nancy Walker filmed Glenn and the V.P. for the big screen musical
"Can't Stop The Music." As part of the V.P. Glenn appeared on everything from "The Donny & Marie Show" to "20/20" from "The Love Boat" to "The Soul Train."
In print Glenn can be found (with his co-horts) in everything from
"Playboy" and "Playgirl" to "G.Q." and even the "World Book Encyclopedia!"
Although no longer a touring member, Glenn was still vital to the group via his partnership with the founding members. Working behind the scenes in their business venture (Sixuvus Ltd.) Glenn still remained a Village Person with the group he helped to build and define. Glenn loved being the
"Leatherman!" The opportunity it gave him to travel the world and work with such wonderful people was one of his greatest joys.

There's a Harley in heaven with Glenn's name plate on it!   We miss you!
Webmasters note: I had the pleasure of working with The Village People in 1988. I spent 4 days with them, as a soundman, promoter, chaffeur, costumer, propman, goodwill ambassador, and devoted fan!  They were the nicest bunch of guys I've ever worked with, Glenn was the quietest. He was a real "teddybear" of a man, gentle and sweet, the exact opposite of his stage persona.  I am truely saddened at his departure..we will miss you!
