Fonda
Rae
Just as Lon Chaney was known as the "man of 1,000 faces" in the movies, Fonda Rae can be billed as the "woman of 1,000 voices" in music. Chances are if you own even a small collection of classic disco you have a Fonda tune in your collection.
The diminutive beauty hails from Ossining, New York, born to parents of diverse nationalities. She grew up in an environment that encouraged many artistic pursuits. In addition to developing her vocal talents, Fonda became proficient on keyboards, violins, and both trap and percussion drums.
Although Fonda has been swept into the entertainment business, her heart and skills also belong to other artistic endeavors such as: specializing in wood work, studio engineering , set designing, graphic artist interior & exterior designing, mural painting, as well as fashion and jewelry designing.
Following her natural instincts, Fonda embarked upon a singing career that has already produced an enviable reputation. She has performed numerous engagements with renowned artists around the entire globe. She was first heard on dancefloors as the voice behind
Don Armando's 2nd Ave. Rhumba Band and the hit "Deputy Of Love." Then came stints as the voice behind, Wish and the hit "Touch Me" (later covered by Cathy Dennis), Fantasy's "You're Too Late," Rainbow Brown's "Till You Surrender" and Kid Creole & The Coconuts' "Maladie D'Amour."
     Finally in 1982 she released
"Over Like A Fat Rat" under her own name. The record enjoyed limited success at the time but has since gone on to achieve cult classic status. In fact it is so highly sought-after that I have seen it go for well over $100.00 on Ebay! She followed that with "Hey O Bah," "Baby Do You Want My Love," "Living In Ecstasy," "Get Into You" and "Last Train To Clarksville" (a spirited remake of the Monkees tune).
In 2002 she landed on the club charts once again, nearly a quarter of a century after first hitting them, with the highly rated smash
"En2U." The track, along with her unique vocals, introduced Rae to an entire new generation of fans.
She has worked with Muhammad Ali in presenting a spectacular gospel concert at the New York's Felt Forum. And recently dazzled New York City, performing on the same bill with Mary J. Blidge, Carl Thomas and Colonel Abrams in a concert for NYC's KISS FM Radio Station.
At present, Fonda is working behind the scene as an engineer, producer and songwriter. She has presently started her own company developing up and coming new talent. So, get ready, 'cause that's just the beginning for the sexy, talented and exciting Fonda Rae, who is already working on new material for her next triumph!
I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Fonda on March 13, 1981. We hired her to come to Dugan's Bistro and perform. And perform she did! We were treated to all her previous hits including her (then) current smash
"You're Too Late." I sit here now looking at my autographed copy of that record and remember how sweet and unaffected she was...she was genuinely flattered at the response she received from an adoring crowd. She wrote on my record: "Danny, thanks alot for all your spirit and positivity. I loved every minute of it. Forever Love Fonda Rae." I treasure that as I do each of her records and am very happy to honor her in The DiscoMuseum......thanks Fonda!
