| As one of the most popular Californian pop/rock bands of the 1970's, the Doobie Brothers evolved from a mellow, post-hippie boogie band to a slick, soul-inflected pop band by the end of the decade. Along the way, the group racked up a string of gold and platinum albums in the U.S., along with a number of radio hits like "Listen To The Music," "Black Water" and "China Grove." By 1978 the steam was running out on the band when they decided to cash in on the disco trend. "What A Fool Believes" became a huge hit for them thanks to the remixed (by Jim Burgess) 12" single. However a second attempt in 1980 with "Real Love" was not as successful. The group finally disbanded in 1982. In 1994 Ben Liebrand remixed "Listen To The Music" for an import 12" single release and the song was popular all over again. |
