Donny & Marie Osmond
Brother and sister acts were popular in the 1970's, and Donny and Marie were only second to Karen and Richard Carpenter in that era. A wildly successful T.V. show propelled their duets up the charts, while both retained solo careers...Marie's was a little bit country and Donny's was a little bit rock and roll. By 1978 the duo was anathema in the music world. Enter the Polydor 12" single of "On The Shelf" billed as D-M Connection. The song was actually good, though more fluff disco than hard driven dance beats, it still tanked. Perhaps America got wind of the name switch ploy ? Donny and Marie would be vindicated many times over in the following years. Marie hit #-1 on the country charts in the 1980's and Donny finally found fame both in the adult rock market and on Broadway in the 1990's.
