| Led by vocalist Eugene Record, the Chi-Lites had a lush, creamy sound distinguished by their four-part harmonies and layered productions. During the early 1970's, they racked up 11 Top Ten R&B singles, ranging from the romantic ballads "Have You Seen Her" and "Oh Girl" to protest songs like "(For God's Sake) Give More Power to the People" and "There Will Never Be Any Peace (Until God Is Seated at the Conference Table)." By the end of the disco era they finally decided to jump on the bandwagon. A series of 12" singles on 20th Century started with a 1980 remake of "Have You Seen Her." Followed by "Me & You," Try My Side Of Love" and the big hit "Hot On A Thing," all released in 1981. One final disco 12" was released in 1984, "Stop What Your Doin'," was by far my favorite. A re-formulated group still tours the oldies circuit. |
