| The daughter of publishing magnate Richard Simon (Simon & Schuster), sister to Lucy (The Secret Garden), ex-wife of James (Sweet Baby James) Taylor and mother to Ben Taylor (rock n' roller), she is many things. The premiere singer/songwriter of the 1970's set, Carly had a string of pop successes during that decade. By 1978 her career was waning when she released the 12" single "Tranquillo (Melt My Heart)" the mellow disco track did not lift her career. 1980's "Come Upstairs" did enjoy a brief dance floor run, as did the 1983 remix of it. Her best disco foray however was 1982's Chic produced "Why" from the film "Soup For One." She gave disco one more shot with a pair of 1985 12" single remixes, "My New Boyfriend" and "Tired Of Being Blonde." Unlike most, she did disco on her terms and thankfully never sold-out to the whole craze. |
