| At the age of 23 (in 1984), the 6'2" Carl Lewis from Birmingham, Alabama repeated what Jessie Owens had accomplished in the 1936 Olympics -- he won four gold medals in four events. A possessor of blinding speed (and several world records), Carl impressed the world as he went on to claim victory in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash, the long jump, and the 400-meter relay. The offers and endorsements poured in. Someone, somewhere decided that Carl should tackle the musical market. Megatone Records released a 12" single in 1984 of "Goin' For The Gold." I can think of several reasons NOT to buy this record, among them.....he can't sing and the subject matter isn't dance floor fodder. What the hell was he thinking? |
