Billy Joel
Joel grew up in Hicksville on Long Island. Before becoming one of the most important singer/songwriters of the 1970's he dabbled in welterweight boxing. 22 fights and a broken nose convinced him to seek another career path. His recording career hit it's first high point when he played piano on the Shangri-La's' "Leader of the Pack" in 1965.  A string of pop/rock success followed throughout the 1970's and well into the 1980's. Along the way he scored two major crossover club hits, "Tell Her About It" and "You're Only Human (Second Wind)." A marriage and divorce to supermodel Christy Brinkley, who starred in a series of his videos, and now a Twyla Tharp choreographed musical on Broadway, "Movin' Out," have only added to Joel's enourmous popularity.
